Its good to hear words of praise

keithcropped

US based Q Center recently sent these words of praise for us:)

‘The team was really nice to work with and the proof I’ve seen was great. I’m working with a producer to edit with the source material this week-but they also shipped/delivered on time as promised.

I’d work with them again anytime-I liked how the interviewer took care of my target on camera in the coaching I heard in the proof… very happy with that.

I also think the shot looks good and the communication with me was proactive, regular, and clear. Two thumbs up!’

Scheduling Time to Transfer Media On-site

harddrive_mac_laptop-200x140

Remember when at the end of shoot we would hand a box of tapes over to the client. Well thats ancient history. We have been shooting tapeless now for over a decade but many Producers are still not accounting for media transfer time within the shoot day. With different codecs it’s important that both the crew and the client be on the same page. Now the crew needs to be aware of what card or drive they are recording to and which one needs to be moved to a client hard drive or backed up. We need to be ready to download the footage at moment’s notice.

Production values

At a recent Communications Media Management Association conference in Nashville, Kirk Duffy from Cargill gave a presentation regarding the services he provides for Cargill’s internal customer. He polled his internal customers with the 5 reasons they use his video production services. Kirk said, “It changed the way I approached and delivered our distinctive values to our customers. It also let me know it was okay that we could not be everything to everyone.” Here are the customer’s answers from the least popular to most popular.

Orlando Furioso at the Oper Frankfurt

Orlando furioso (Oper Frankfurt, 2014) Orlando furioso (Oper Frankfurt, 2014) Orlando furioso (Oper Frankfurt, 2014) Orlando furioso (Oper Frankfurt, 2014)

The Frankfurt Opera House is the only company world wide staging Vivaldi’s Orlando Furioso at the moment, which is a shame because the story itself is ideal for opera.
The performance is definitely worth a visit even though its the same old story about love, intrigue and of course a happy ending…
Lets hope we can get to see more of the star performers Delphine Galou (Orlando), Daniela Pini (Alcina), Sofia Fomina (Angelica) and Paula Murrihy (Medoro). They were brilliant!

Sempre libera! – La Traviata at the Staatstheater Darmstadt

la_traviata_08 la_traviata_07 la_traviata_02 la_traviata_04

What a surprise that the premiere of La Traviata got so little praise considering it’s now one of the world’s favourites. Maybe because the Darmstadt performance offered nothing new. A rather run of the mill interpretation, but nevertheless great viewing!
The major highlight was Adréana Kraschewski who gave a brilliant rendition as Violetta…

Words galore in Frankfurt!!

Poetry Slam Deluxe at the English Theatre Frankfurt is a great event, vibrant , hilarious and full of surprises. The audience form the jury and a guest show master is always a member of the public. Lars Ruppel is the heart and should of Poetry Slam, he has the wonderful gift of not only being a great poet himself but his scathing wit and lightning repartee keeps the show pulsating at a permanent high. Its worth going just to laugh along with Lars, but book early, the show is always sold out fast.

Giving head…room

London cabbies call this the Kipper Season, when business slows down a bit, so I’ve taken time to reflect and put pen to paper.
I’ve heard that blogs should let the punters know what they want and not what I want to sell them, so here we go!

I recently received these images of a 2 camera shoot. The close up is OK, but slightly heavy on the head room, however, the wider shot is definitely out of order, far too much head room. The subject is forced down the frame and appears diminished and small.
Furthermore when you cut between both shots the image jumps and the flow is interrupted.

The pictures below would be my suggestion:

When I challenged the DP he said the onsite producer approved the shots. A word of caution, many producers are content driven and not too hot on cinematic language. The DP, however, calls the shots and is responsible for the images. He has to see the full picture and how his images work in editing.

So, all you shooters out there….dont give so much headroom.

Love until Death – Werther at the Oper Frankfurt

Massenets opera “Werther” is now showing again at the Frankfurt opera house.
Tanja Ariane Baumgartner and John Osborn, as Charlotte and Werther, oozed passion as they played out their, dramatic and torturous love affair and the audience sat with baited breath as Lotte despairs over her new found love and the long defunct relationship with her husband Albert.
The minimalist stage set provides a perfecting setting for the desperate lovers plight and the cleverly choreographed light effects enhanced the mis en scene no end.
Hats off to Massenet for transforming Goethe’s story into one of Germany’s most famous operas. Definitely not to be missed.
