Camera crew in Frankfurt at the English Theatre
A couple of years ago we forged a relationship with the largest English-speaking theatre company in mainland Europe, The English Theatre Frankfurt. As official media sponsors it lies in our domain to produce trailers for their upcoming shows. Here we are shooting a trailer to their latest musical “The Life”, a US-based story dealing with all things sex, sin and prostitution around Times Square in the 80’s.

Fashionable Cameras
As we all know, cameras go out of fashion at the drop of a hat and at the moment everybody’s darling is the Sony FS7, which is overshadowing the good old Canon C300. Everybody seems to have one, including us, because it’s affordable and you get a lot for your money. It offers many more features than the C300 (apart from the C300 MKII which is twice the price).
On top of the 6.000 or 7.000 Euros basic kit price you have to spend a couple thousand more to make it user friendly (lenses, metabones adapter, shoulder plate, V-mount adapters, etc.) – but that’s what you do with all other cameras anyway.
Like most other people we’ve suffered with the temperamental and unreliable metabones adapter – but who’s got Sony E-mount lenses out there?!
We had our FS7 out recently shooting for an American client and were more than pleased to be able to shoot high speed at 180 fps (in NSTC)! One international crewing agency recently said the ‘ancient’ Sony EX3 is still top of the list for most of their clients, followed closely by the C300. However , the FS7 is gaining ground fast and will soon pip them all at the post!
Our experience tells us that ‘3-chip cameras’ are more or less dead and everyone wants shallow depth of field – in whatever shape or form.
The FS7 is definitely up front at the moment but nothing is future proof in this game… apart from decent tripods and C-stands.
